Privacy Policy

Introduction

GlyphSentinel ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our free anti-phishing Chrome extension handles information when you use GlyphSentinel to protect yourself from IDN homograph attacks, typosquatting, and other domain-based phishing threats.

Information We Collect

GlyphSentinel is designed with privacy as a core principle. We collect and process minimal information necessary for the extension to function:

  • Domain Names (Local Only): We analyze domain names of websites you visit locally on your device to detect potential homograph attacks, typosquatting, and other domain-based threats. This data never leaves your browser.
  • User Preferences (Local Storage): Your extension settings (such as sensitivity levels and whitelist entries) are stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local.

Information We Do NOT Collect

We want to be absolutely clear about our zero data collection policy:

  • We do not collect your browsing history
  • We do not track the websites you visit
  • We do not collect personal information
  • We do not use cookies or tracking technologies
  • We do not send any data to external servers
  • We do not share any information with third parties
  • We do not use analytics or telemetry

100% Local Processing

All domain analysis and phishing detection happens entirely on your local device. GlyphSentinel does not transmit domain names or any other data to external servers. The Unicode confusables database, brand detection lists, and all other security data are bundled with the extension and processed locally. This means your browsing activity remains completely private - even we cannot see what websites you visit.

Data Storage

Your preferences and whitelist entries are stored using your browser's local storage APIs (chrome.storage.local). This data never leaves your device and is only accessible by the GlyphSentinel extension. You can clear this data at any time by uninstalling the extension.

Browser Permissions Explained

GlyphSentinel requires certain browser permissions to provide phishing protection:

  • webNavigation: Required to analyze domain names when you navigate to websites - this is how we detect threats before pages load
  • storage: Required to save your preferences and whitelist locally on your device
  • tabs: Required to display security warnings and interact with the current tab when a threat is detected

Open Source Transparency

GlyphSentinel is 100% open source software under the MIT license. You can review our complete source code on GitHub to verify our privacy practices and audit exactly how the extension handles your data.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. Significant changes will also be announced in the extension's release notes.
